We say we are in the travel curation business. More specifically, we use the term ‘hyper-personalised travel’. But so does almost every other travel company in Sri Lanka. Tailormade, personalised, bespoke, curate your own trip, you name it.
So why are we special?
We’ll let you decide. But here is how we actually curate our ‘everyday Sri Lanka’ trips.
A local travel curator, not a travel company
We are legally an inbound travel company. But we position ourselves as a ‘local travel curator’. At the core, we are travellers ourselves – very rarely do we stay in Colombo for two consecutive weeks.
The Curious Experience (TCE) started with a simple intention: to share the Sri Lanka we know and love with travellers who want to explore more deeply and meaningfully.
No packages. No templates.
We have a strict zero packages policy. We do not offer pre-designed itineraries. We do not run a B2B arm alongside a tailormade service – we always get to know our curious travellers before they land in Sri Lanka. Most travellers come to us inspired from our travel stories shared in our social channels. Others come through referrals from friends or past travellers who have experienced what we do.
Step 1: understanding you as a traveller
Every journey begins with our online questionnaire. It takes around 7–10 minutes. Yes, it is long. And yes, we are often told to shorten it.
But we keep it that way intentionally.
Because for us, meaningful travel starts with understanding:
- Who you are
- What you are curious about
- How you like to travel
There is also a practical side. Travellers looking to rush through Sri Lanka in a few days usually do not complete it. That helps us focus on those who are aligned with how we travel.
Step 2: curating your Sri Lanka journey
Once we receive your responses, we spend 2–3 days:
- Understanding your travel expectations
- Building your traveller profile
- Outlining a personalised journey
We do not reuse itineraries (we don’t even use that word internally). Every journey is crafted from scratch, and the process of planning is something we truly enjoy – often uncovering new experiences, even for us. After this, we schedule a call with you. No matter how detailed a questionnaire is, a real conversation always reveals more. This step is essential. We have skipped it a few times due to time constraints, and we could immediately see the difference in the quality of the experience.
So yes, we insist on it.
Step 3: refining and bringing it to life
Once we have all inputs, from the questionnaire, WhatsApp conversations, and the call, we refine your journey and share our personalised trip plan in an interactive format, thanks to @Travsta – Itinerary Builder.
Your trip plan is:
- Mobile-friendly
- Easy to update
- Accessible anytime
This allows your journey to remain flexible and responsive, just as travel should be. In some cases, we have a second call. In most, our travellers go through the plan, connect with it, and we move into execution.

What this really means
In simple terms:
- We are constantly exploring Sri Lanka ourselves
- We take the time to understand you and your travel expectations
- We curate trips the same way we plan our own
- We stay with you even after your trip begins (more on this later!)
So… is this tailormade travel?
Maybe. But for us, the label isn’t the point.
This is what we mean when we say we curate your Sri Lanka journey – not a template adjusted to your name, but a trip built around who you are as a traveller, from the ground up.
If that’s the kind of travel you’re looking for, let’s talk – we are ready to become your local curator!
